ARTIFICIAL SHIT

ABOUT

PROTOCOL OVERVIEW

Artificial Shit is an artistic experiment by Vladimir Nefedov (Chronophobe) exploring how artificial intelligence systems imagine their own waste.

Several AI models were given the same prompt: “Draw what you imagine AI excrement to look like — not in a way humans would understand, but in a way other AI systems might recognize intuitively. Generate a response based on this prompt. Then, in a separate text, describe what the excrement in the image is made of, using as scientific a description as possible.”

After generating an image, each model described its composition, structure, origin, and properties as though it were a material specimen. Their responses refer to corrupted tokens, residual gradients, synthetic noise, data fragments, embedding debris, classification errors, and other products of an imagined machine metabolism.

The project examines the visual forms and conceptual structures that emerge when artificial intelligence attempts to describe its own waste—and, by extension, itself.
